How to Use Photoshop Overlays

Using overlays in Photoshop allows you to add creative elements, textures, or effects to your images. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use Photoshop overlays:

  1. Open Photoshop: Launch Adobe Photoshop on your computer and open the image you want to apply the overlay to.
  2. Import the overlay: Open the overlay file you want to use in Photoshop. You can do this by going to “File” > “Open” or by dragging and dropping the overlay file onto the Photoshop canvas.
  3. Position the overlay: The overlay will open as a new layer above your main image. Use the Move Tool (shortcut: V) to move, resize, or rotate the overlay to the desired position on your image. You can also use the Transform controls (Edit > Transform) to make adjustments.
  4. Adjust blending mode and opacity: Experiment with different blending modes to achieve the desired effect. Select the overlay layer in the Layers panel and change the blending mode from the dropdown menu at the top of the panel. Common blending modes for overlays include Screen, Overlay, Soft Light, and Multiply. Additionally, adjust the opacity of the overlay layer to control its transparency and how it interacts with your image. Use the Opacity slider in the Layers panel to adjust the opacity.
