How to use Photoshop Overlay
Photoshop Overlay is a technique used to add a layer of color, texture or pattern to an image, without altering the original image. The Overlay layer is placed on top of the image layer, and the opacity of the Overlay layer is adjusted to control the intensity of the effect. Here are the steps to use Photoshop Overlay:
- Open your image in Photoshop.
- Go to the Layers panel, and click on the “Create a New Layer” button to create a new layer.
- Select the Overlay blending mode from the drop-down menu located at the top of the Layers panel.
- Choose the color or texture you want to apply as an overlay. You can create your own texture or use a pre-made one. To create your own, simply use the brush or gradient tool to create a layer of color or texture. To use a pre-made texture, you can download one online or use one of the built-in textures in Photoshop.
- Drag and drop the texture onto the Overlay layer you created in step 2.
- Adjust the opacity of the Overlay layer to control the intensity of the effect. You can do this by using the opacity slider in the Layers panel.
- If you want to further customize the effect, you can add a layer mask to the Overlay layer and use the brush tool to selectively remove or add the effect to specific areas of the image.
- Once you’re happy with the effect, save your image.
That’s it! You have successfully applied an Overlay effect to your image using Photoshop.
